Giles Davis produced and arranged all the songs on his first solo release, The Advantages of Union. Featuring a mix of originals and material written by other artists, the CD showcases Giles on vocals, alto, tenor, and baritone saxes, acoustic and electric guitars, keyboards, bass, drums, flute, mandolin, accordion, melodica, percussion, and wind controller.
Inspired by a bottle of Budweiser. Written mostly by my brother Todd with some input by me. Our attempt at being "blue collar" rockers. I almost used the title as the name of the CD, but figured "Giles Davis: So Fine" sounded a little arrogant.
This was recorded a couple of different ways during the sessions. This is clearly the way it work best. (Although one version has me doing the lamest "Russ-Kunkel-on-Fire-and-Rain-syncopated-playing-with-brushes-fills" imitation ever.) This version features a rare (as opposed to common, hopefully not as opposed to well done) flute solo.
